Quantum computers are one of the truly new developments in the technology industry. Though the foundation runs through a historical “who’s who” of 20th century quantum physics, the ability to use quantum mechanics to solve computational problems is new for the 21st century. The exciting aspect of quantum computing is that it is so very different than classical computing. That excitement, however, comes at a cost. It is extremely difficult to explain the fundamentals of quantum computing. Without a great deal of study in quantum physics, many people who may want to keep watch over or contribute to the field are given little more than a string of vague concepts. The Quantum Edge newsletter will endeavor to get to the fundamentals and deliver a practical understanding of the workings of a quantum computer.
